This paper presents a comprehensive analysis of the medium voltage grid in Burgwedel, Germany, focusing on the integration of renewable energy sources and the implications of increased load from air heat pumps. Using the pandapower framework, the medium voltage grid and its components were modelled, including photovoltaic systems via PVWatts, wind systems via windpowerlib, and load profiles using BDEW standard load profiles. A total of 50 scenarios were evaluated: 25 scenarios incrementally increased PV and wind capacities, and the remaining 25 included additional heat pump loads. Key analyses were conducted on voltage profiles, line loadings, transformer loadings, and energy losses in the grid. The results highlighted critical impacts on voltage stability, significant line loadings, and increased energy losses. The study provides actionable recommendations for grid upgrades and optimization to ensure the reliable and efficient integration of renewable energy and additional loads, guiding the sustainable expansion of Burgwedel’s energy infrastructure.
