Inhalt:
This paper deals with the challenges created by the extreme power demand by latest processor generations as being used to train large models for Artificial Intelligence and for other use cases in Hyper Scale Datacenters. Very high load currents combined with very fast transients at processor level, lead to changes along the entire power conversion chain from AC/DC power supplies down to the Point-of-load power stages. The article is organized along the power flow from the processor backward to the AC/DC power supply and gives insights into underlying concepts and architectures to cope with the challenges to power modern AI processors.
