In conventional literature, ideal transformers are depicted with primary and secondary windings tightly linked to the magnetic circuit, yet uncoupled from each other, leading to substantial energy storage in leakage inductors. This study challenges this understanding by exploring coupling configurations' implications on high-frequency transformer performance. Meticulous testing on toroidal and ETD setups reveals the criticality of effective coupling for an optimal transformer. The results emphasize the drawbacks of insufficient coupling in toroidal setups and a very efficient coupling realized in ETD configurations. This underscores the vital role of precise coil coupling strategies in improving high-frequency transformers performances.
