This paper presents the use of a material grade’s saturation coefficient with the core geometry method (Kg) to analytically determine the required size and achievable performance of differential mode EMI DC filter inductors. The traditional Kg method is only directly applicable to gapped ferrite designs, whereas the proposed method expands the use of this equations to gapped ferrites and powdered magnetic materials.
