The selection of the magnetic core is the most critical decision when designing magnetic components for Power Converters, as it shapes its dimensions and constrains the rest of parts, like the insulation or the wires. Current selection methods are inherited from decades ago, designed for lower frequencies, failing to take eddy currents and core losses effects into account, and thus increasing the number of iterations needed to design a working component. A method is introduced that expands the current Area Product core selection method to the medium-high frequencies used in modern converters.
