This paper will provide an overview of challenges encountered in high side battery protection applications including high side gate driver as well as high side disconnect switch (7TH MOSFET). The objective of this study is to make users better understand and design battery protection solutions that allow right design-in, ensure safe battery power operation, and prevent battery damage and catastrophic failures. The conditions that are encountered during system turn-on and turn-off, specifically for a low-cost open loop system are discussed in detail.
