In order to investigate the cause of failure of power converters for e. g. wind energy plants, a 10 MW test rig and a climate chamber were set up at IALB. This configuration makes it possible to test entire switch cabinets under realistic climatic conditions and with varying electrical loads. To emulate the behaviour of a wind turbine generator a model-based approach was chosen. The shaft angle, for the field oriented based current control of the Device Under Test (DUT), is extracted from the calculation model. The machine angle is transferred with a low power inverter, a servomotor and a suitable encoder to the controller of the DUT.
