This Paper presents a Partial Element Equivalent Circuit (PEEC) thermal model to calculate the temperature of inductors and transformers. With a modular concept different cores can be modeled by using a unique meshing concept with rectangular and cylindrical cells. The model consists of conduction, radiation to the ambient as well as between elements and heat dissipation like free and forced convection. The separate calculation methods are compared to FEM-Models. The final model is compared to a measurement.
