Among the main building blocks of EV architecture, a relevant position is covered by the emergency DCDC converter, crucial for provisioning power to a wide variety of low voltage subsystems. For this purpose, STMicroelectronics proposes its innovative STi(2)GaN 650V flyback IC in a closed control loop for HV-LV conversion. Working at 300kHz switching frequency, by autonomously tuning the duty cycle, the system can deliver up to 68W output power and guarantee 87.2% efficiency in a wide loading range. The strength of the system is its outstanding robustness in sustaining very high RMS input voltage stress (battery overvoltage) for long time window.
