The demand for power converters with high power density, high efficiency, and more reliability is steadily rising to deal with issues such as environment pollution and sustainability. This demand is higher for automotive applications such as EV chargers, energy storage systems (ESS), onboard chargers (OBC), and vehicle-to-grid (V2G) systems. This paper discusses a 22 kW wall-box charger system that can cater to this demand. The complete solution includes advanced 1200 V and 1700 V discrete SiC MOSFETs, a galvanically isolated gate driver, and AURIX(TM) microcontroller unit (MCU). Test results have shown that this innovative solution has several benefits including a wide range of output voltage (200 V – 900 V), compact size (650 x 290 × 200 mm), high power density, high efficiency (up to 96.5%), high level of waterproofing (grade IP65), and high reliability.
