Energy storage systems are becoming popular in these years. Multiphase interleaving and bi-directional operation are required in such applications. This paper will show the benefits of average current mode control in such applications. Models of the inner current loop and outer voltage loop are presented. Feedforward ramp is introduced and the benefits are analyzed. The compensation strategies for the current loop and voltage loop are suggested. A 48V to 12V/60A bi-directional DC/DC converter with the modified average current mode control is developed and introduced. Key waveforms are obtained to support the benefits. Simulation and bench test are performed to verify the model and compensation strategies.
