This paper presents a full system implementation of 150V OptiMOS (TM) power MOSFETs embedded inside the printed circuit board (PCB) for a portable welding station “Fronius – Ignis Battery (TM) 150/750”. A significant reduction in electromagnetic conducted emission and voltage overshoot was observed for the synchronous buck stage. Different laminate materials were evaluated to optimize the thermal management. Several different qualification tests had been performed with pass, on the MOSFETs embedded inside the PCB, to demonstrate reliability readiness for volume production.
