Advanced Cooling Technologies, Inc. (ACT) has developed an advanced pumped two-phase (P2P) system that outperforms typical P2P systems through increased cooling performance and reduced size, weight, and power (SWaP) requirements of the thermal management system. This advanced system uses a hybrid evaporator that uses thin-film evaporation as the mechanism of cooling, making the system capable of removing 1000+ W/cm2 of heat density, up to multiple kW of power. A case study is performed to demonstrate the improvements in the thermal management system made by the hybrid evaporator, starting at the component level and expanding through the system design.
