TUBITAK UZAY's Reaction Wheel offers zero-crossing and micro-vibration qualities, as well as satisfactory performance in terms of torque, momentum storage, and wheel speed measuring. A reliable, cost-effective, and flexible motor drive that uses only inexpensive, low-resolution hall sensors to achieve field-oriented control is proposed. An anti-fuse FPGA is employed as a digital controller, and the 3-phase inverter uses 50 kHz PWM. These help to enhance the transient response of the torque control loop and reduce the torque ripple of the motor compared to conventional drives employing a trapezoidal control system.
