For bidirectional AC/DC power converters in electric vehicle (EV) charging station and onboard charger (OBC) applications, high efficiency and high power-density are two of the key success factors. This work presents a system solution of the 11-kW active-neutral-point-clamped (ANPC) AC/DC converter. Thanks to the combination of multi-level topology with 600 V Si super-junction (SJ) MOSFETs and 750 V SiC MOSFETs, a peak efficiency of 99.2% is reported in the work. Moreover, a superior power-density of 11.4 kW/L is achieved, thanks to the adoption of top-side-cooling packages. The operation principle, switching-cell design, system integration, thermal design and experimental results are presented.
