Electricity meters and power monitors are designed and calibrated for power frequency but increasingly exposed to harmonic distortion, harmonic active and reactive power components, or fast transitions. This leaves a gap in addressing real-world complexities in metrology. This study introduces a measurement setup created to investigate the impact of non-sinusoidal signals derived from industry-typical voltage and current signals on energy meter accuracy. Recordings of signals from actual industrial scenarios were used to synthesise test signals, to verify the test setup, and several energy meters were tested with the test signals in a laboratory environment.
