This paper presents a comprehensive evaluation of semiconductor losses and thermal performance of a three-level T-type converter. The loss and thermal performances of three-phase T-type converter under different modulation strategies and the influence of positive and negative power factors are discussed. Besides, the loss characteristics of the converter used to generate inductive and capacitive reactive power are also considered. The loss variations and thermal analysis during low-voltage ride-through are evaluated under specific conditions. Accordingly, the loss and thermal analysis of each device are obtained under different conditions which provides a comprehensive reference for the design and the component selection of converters.
