The combination of a quadratic pre-stage and a combined forward-flyback converter leads to an isolated converter with only one active switch and with a transformer with only two windings. This topology transfers energy during the on-time of the active switch as in a forward converter and also after turn off of the electronic switch as in a flyback converter. No demagnetization winding is necessary. The derivation of the topology is explained and the function of the converter is described in detail with the help of drawings, simulations and measurements.
