This paper investigates an approach for efficiency improvement of vehicle onboard battery chargers. The suggested technique is based on accommodating active MOSFET rectification as an alternative to passive diode rectification, used in single-phase off-line topology Boost PFC converter. The research depicts the applicability of active rectification to high-voltage applications, widely used for low-voltage circuits, experimentally proving the energy efficiency improvement, utilisation of Application Specific Integrated Circuits (ASICs) for control, the possibility for MOSFET parallel operation with current and temperature equalisation.
