Hybrid DC/AC grids represents an opportunity to improve efficiency and stability of power grids, as well as boosting a high share of renewable energies, electric vehicles, and DC loads. However, to do so, several challenges and technologies must be meet first. This paper describes the TIGON project, in which a Solid-State Transformer (SST) device is designed oriented and manufactured for DC and AC grids. Simulation results are included, as well as information details of the manufacturing prior to its installation in the demo-sites.
