High efficiency and high power density have been a continuing demand for switching mode power supplies, especially in server and data center applications. This is due to stringent efficiency requirements by 80 Plus, Energy Star 3.0 and European LOT 9 standards, which require the use of semiconductors of better performance and more advanced topologies. In this paper, a SiC MOSFET-based 3.6 kW Totem-pole PFC converter is presented. Thanks to the superb performance (low conduction and switching losses) of the SiC devices with TOLL (TO leadless) package, an exceptional efficiency of 99.10% at 60 kHz has been achieved (the loss of the auxiliary power supply also included). A practical thermal solution is also provided for high power density (92 kW/in3).
