This paper presents methods of predictive control of supercapacitors to reduce power peaks at operating storage and retrieval machines (SRM) in intralogistics. The equalization of load, energy savings by temporarily storing braking energy and accelerated aging of supercapacitors due to cycling were taken into account to evaluate different charging strategies. The simulation in Matlab for a specified rack storage and stacker crane configuration results in a significant Power Peak Reduction (PPR) by up to 90 %. In addition, energy savings by up to 5.9 % and an increase in estimated calendar lifetime of around 35 % were achieved. The results show a significant efficiency enhancement of the drive system.
