A novel concept is proposed to drive an isolated GaN Gate Injection Transistor (GIT) device directly with a single integrated coreless transformer based on CMOS technology. The design results in a simple two dice solution which eliminates all secondary side components such as capacitors, bootstrap diodes, gate drivers, auxiliary supplies and level shifters by combining all their functionalities within a single package. It is an ease of use design which can achieve highest power density as well as reducing the design effort for the driving stage. The concept is proven in hardware within a QFN package, switching at 400V DC.
