Based on previous investigations different foil winding structures have been further investigated to realize capacitance optimized transformers. The investigations include magnetic and electrical field (MEF) simulations in COMSOL Multiphysics(r), measurements with an impedance analyzer as well as pulse measurements. Objective of these investigations is the demand for capacitance optimized transformers since modern power semiconductor devices switch ever faster and therefore dv/dt-induced currents become a much bigger issue. Since some approaches affect the thermal behavior, a thermal optimization method for the windings is presented.
