An inverting Buck-Boost converter with an interesting quadratic voltage transformation ratio is treated. The function is described, the stresses of the devices, the large and small signal models are calculated, the design of a feedforward controller is treated and dimensioning hints of the converter are given. The inrush current of the converter is also discussed. The considerations are proved by simulations. Besides of the special voltage transformation ratio, a further interesting fact is the continuous input current. The converter can be used for battery, solar and fuel cell applications, especially when a wide transformation ratio is necessary.
