An ultra-compact power module for xEVsis presented in this paper. The new power module has been developed by applying an advanced Reverse-Conducting Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor (RC-IGBT), a high thermal conductive cooler and a leadframe wiring package. Combining these technologies, the footprint and the volume of the new power module was dramatically reduced. Decrease of power loss by advanced 7G RC-IGBT and increase of thermal performanceby the new cooler enable a high power output as same as a conventional moduleat the ultra-compact size. The power density of the new power module is almost double compared with the conventional power module. The featuresof the new power module and key technologies are described in this paper.
