In this paper, we present the new platform for phase controlled thyristors (PCT) and rectifier diodes with an in-depth focus on the first two pilot products. The two pilot products are a PCT and a rectifier diode both rated at 6.5 kV in the N-housing (100 mm pole piece diameter, 35 mm height). The new platform makes use of the latest backend technologies, an improved wafer design (e.g. positive beveled junction termination with modified anode profile) and the leading snowflake gate design structure for the PCT. In combination with a new packaging design, the rated current of both devices are boosted by 30 %. Using our latest generation of devices, the applications become more cost efficient by e.g. reducing the number of parallel connected devices in high-power rectifiers or an increased output power of static VAR compensators (SVC) or load commutated inverters (LCI).
