The main steam pipe SA-335 P91 steel with similar aging degree are selected as the model alloy. The self-made spherical indenter was used to detect two different power plant steels by indentation method. Tensile test and Brinell hardness test were also carried out for the model alloy steels at room temperature. The results show that the tensile strength results of the indenter test are consistent with the results of the room temperature tensile test, and the margin of error between the two tests was less than 3%. The Brinell hardness value detected by the indenter is similar to the data detected by the desktop Brinell hardness machine, and the error is less than 5%. It shows that the self-made spherical indenter has high accuracy on the mechanical properties of power plant steel SA-335 P91.
