The shaped wire is widely applied in mechanical spring, auto wiper blade, suspension bridge main cable winding steel wire, and offshore flexible pipe wire. With the highly technical development of the mechanical and automobile industry, the requirements of dimension and mechanical properties are becoming more and more critical. The technology of high precision and excellent mechanical properties have become important study points. Based on the literature investigation and research experience, this paper introduces the progress of study on the forming and mechanical properties of precision shaped wire in detail. Firstly, the dimension control of the shaped wire was introduced, such as the design of shaped die, the design of rolling hole shape, and the state of the art shaped wire process designs were classified. Secondly, the mechanical properties of shaped wire were described, and the factors of mechanical properties were introduced. Finally, the research on the strain path effect of precision shaped wire has prospected in order to provide a reference for the development of precision shaped wire forming process with high size precision and excellent mechanical properties.
