With the rapid development of wind energy, wind power converter tends to increase the unit capacity to satisfy the market requirement. Hence, the high power density module is needed. This paper investigates the feasibility of the industry LV100 module used in onshore wind power to substitute the traditional NX module. The Industry LV100 module has the feature of 7th generation chip technology and solid cover technology, which ensures high efficiency and high thermal cycle capability. Compared to 1700V/600A NX module, 1700V/1200A LV100 module increases the current density from 7.93A/cm2 to 8.57A/cm2. Symmetric wiring layout design and laminated electrode structure lead to LV100 modules easy for parallel use. 690Vac/1.5MW wind power converter is taken as the case study. It is concluded that, with the merits of smaller system size, the similar power losses and the lower current imbalance ratio for both collect current and emitter current, the proposed LV100 module can replace the NX module in the wind power converter application.
