This paper briefly discusses the volume optimization of a 300kW step-down converter, specially designed for agricultural machines. Electrical and mechanical design insights along with the submodules auxiliary circuits, cooling system, and component isolation are provided. Under consideration of the underlying constraints, a hardware setup is designed that fulfills all the requirements of a high-power DC grid-connected application. The selection of the components is primarily based on the power density requirement. Additionally, it is shown that liquid cooling, constructional modularity, and centralized communication provide monumental features of a compact design.
