This paper investigates the impact of number of phases of a multiphase inverter on dc-link RMS current. A comprehensive generic model for calculation RMS current in the dc-link is developed considering the number of phases and various operating condition of the induction motor (Modulation index, power factor). This model will greatly help designer in sizing the inverter DC capacitor.
