At present times the actual task in the electric power industry and electrical engineering is to increase the energy effi-ciency and reliability of the operation of distribution electric grids. The solution of this problem can be achieved through the use of electrical devices based on a new element of electrical equipment – a coil-capacitor (coilcap), combining in a single technical object functions of an inductive coil and a capacitor. The paper task is to develop a mathematical model of coilcap based on the harmonic linearization and equivalent generator methods for the analysis of its functioning modes, to assess its adequacy and accuracy and to develop the schematic solution, the equivalent substitution scheme and describe operation principle of the current-limiting device based on a coilcap. Results of physical modelling of devices based on coilcap and experimental researches are presented.
