Inhalt:
A control scheme for a variable speed tidal stream turbine is proposed. The system consists of a permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) with the stator windings connected to the grid through a frequency converter. This frequency converter consists of two pulse width modulated (PWM) converters connected in a back-to-back configuration with an intermediate DC bus. A field oriented control scheme for this system is presented and simulated in Simulink using the SimPowerSystems Library. It allows the generator side converter to control the speed of the generator in order to maximise the extracted power while the grid side converter can be used to keep the DC link voltage constant and control the active and reactive power delivered to the grid.
