Direct instantaneous torque control (DITC) of switched reluctance machines (SRMs) using a Five level converter is presented. Using the four-level converter, DITC can overcome voltage limitation of asymmetric converters and has a fast magnetisation and demagnetisation to improve motors stability and drive efficiency. This converter can apply a high level voltage at excitation and demagnetization time then produce suitable current. Although fast reduction of demagnetization current lead to decrease a torque ripple in high speed region but this can reduce the overlapping time in low speed region and then increase torque ripple in this region. To solve this problem, this paper presents a five-level converter in Direct Instantaneous Torque Control of Switched Reluctance Motors. The proposed converter is demonstrated through the computer simulation in MATLAB/Simulink. Then, the obtained results are verified by comparison the corresponding results of DITC with conventional asymmetric converter and four-level converter.
