The mathematical performance estimation of two main header compression schemes, based on the RFC-2508 and RFC-3095 standards, is being presented in this paper, considering conditions given by cellular radio access technology. Header Compression can reduce the size of IPv6 packets by as much as 75%, drastically reducing the bandwidth and infrastructure needed to support voice-over-IP, video conferencing, interactive gaming, streaming media and other mobile Internet applications. As a consequence, IP Header Compression also improves transmission delay and interactive response time. Therefore, subscribers enjoy a higher level of quality when using Internet services that employ Header Compression, even as the burden on network infrastructure is reduced.
