The measurement of Partial Discharges (PD) is a strong tool for assessing the insulation condition in high voltage systems [1]. Traditional Phase-Resolved Partial Discharge (PRPD) analyses typically require a large number of pulses to effectively represent the statistical distribution of PD events. This contribution examines an improved processing and visualization method that employs phase-resolved analysis with probability density visualization. Decoupling data acquisition and visualization forms the necessary foundation for this approach [2][3]. Examples of corona, void, and surface discharges demonstrate the method’s effectiveness in distinguishing different PD sources. The probability density visualization normalizes characteristic patterns, making them easier to perceive and interpret. This approach allows for a more intuitive and efficient analysis in certain applications, while other applications will benefit from traditional PRPD visualization.
