In the course of the increased importance of a reliable energy supply, special focus must be placed on the condition of the medium-voltage cable networks. Knowledge about the condition of medium-voltage cable systems can be determined using a suitable diagnostic procedure and a comprehensive evaluation system that has already been developed. By build-ing up a large database consisting of a large number of medium-voltage cable diagnoses, initial condition trends of certain cable types can be derived. The aim of this work is to generate an archetype level model for medium-voltage cable systems using a big database of measured medium-voltage cable systems, which can evaluate entire medium-voltage cable networks without gaps using the generated archetypes. For this purpose, master data from 32 distribution network operators were analysed to identify frequently used medium-voltage cable components, in particular medium-voltage cable types. These were compared with the existing measurement database in order to derive a medium-voltage cable component importance and to demonstrate the relevance in practice.
