The rise in the number of DC grids is attributed to their superior efficiency and their ability to integrate renewable energy sources. However, this trend poses challenges for switching devices to perform optimally. Hybrid circuit breakers are capable of meeting these performance requirements due to their ability to switch quickly and reliably under all load conditions. The switch-off speed of a hybrid circuit breaker, which is crucial for its performance, largely depends on the recovery of the mechanical switch after contact separation. Many factors that are influencing the recovery speed are still unknown. To identify those with low effort, testing methods need to be implemented. This publication presents a new method to measure the recovery behavior. It reduces effort to existing methods with comparable results.
