Compact gas-insulated systems for high-voltage direct current applications (HVDC GIS) have been developed for space-saving installations and are on the market up to rated DC voltages of ±550 kV since several years. A HVDC GIS was installed and successfully commissioned in the German substation Bentwisch within the German-Danish interconnector KONTEK in 2023. However, there is only little commercial operating experience to date. Consequently, an accompanying partial discharge monitoring system was set up in the first months of operation from December 2023 to April 2024 in order to gain experience with long-term partial discharge (PD) measurement under DC voltage.
