We propose an error-pattern-dependent lite equalizer to whiten the noise enhancement after FFE in a 224-Gb/s PAM-4 system. The EPD-LE achieves a pre-FEC BER of 2.6×10–4 with the maximum burst errors length of four compared to 11 in DFE, providing exceeding one-order-of-magnitude post-FEC performance gain.
