Lightning strike is one of the main causes of pipeline ablation and perforation. The damage characteristics and differ-ences of oil and gas pipeline under different lightning current were analyzed through experimental research. The surface damage zone of the uncoated metal pipe sample under the simulated lightning flow A/B component is distributed nearly round, with the arc as the center. The recoagulated steel melt is distributed radiantly around, with obvious sputtering phenomenon. Although the damage depth of the pipeline cross-section is relatively shallow, the surface damage will accelerate the corrosion of the pipeline body and further affect its safe operation. However the ablative damage on the surface of metal pipe sample is more serious under the C component, and a nearly circular ablative pit is formed. There are a large number of cracks in the core of the ablative pit, without obvious splashing phenomenon, The cross-section damage is deep, which will directly affect the safe operation of the pipeline. Based on the experimental results of light-ning damage, it can provide technical support for lightning pipeline accident identification, and has important guiding significance for lightning protection and accident cause identification of long-distance oil and gas pipelines.
