It has been reported that winter lightning has significantly different characteristics from summer lightning. Investigation revealed that damage caused by winter lightning tends to be larger and more widespread than that caused by summer lightning. We assumed that this phenomenon was largely related to the characteristics of winter lightning, and conducted lightning current measurements. Calculations based on the measurement of lightning current waveform showed that reducing grounding resistance is effective as a lightning protection measure.
