Inhalt:
This paper presents a comprehensive comparison between the full-wave and quasi-static Partial Element Equivalent Circuit (PEEC) methods for analysing the response of transmission towers under very fast electromagnetic transients. This electromagnetic transient can be caused by a lightning strike, an operational overvoltage, or a strong electromagnetic pulse. The paper describes the formulation and implementation of both methods and presents simulation results for a representative transmission tower model. The influence of discrete size is also discussed, which is of significant importance in the simulation.
