Many unpredictabilities in the development process can be checked and ruled out in advance using simulations. However, these simulations only provide a simplified picture of reality. This fact can be particularly critical for power grid applications because numerous properties are not simulated realistically. Hardware in the loop (HIL) systems can remedy this by providing a more realistic development environment. This paper presents a continuously adjustable line impedance for a power grid HIL system. In order to ensure stepless adjustability, controllable inductors based on parallel biasing are used.
