This paper addresses antenna optimization problems in the context of spaceborne SAR systems for Earth observation. Theses kind of antennas require careful and precise design of their radiation characteristics. Special focus is laid on the optimization of transmit patterns, suitable for wide-swath SAR scenarios. Based on a selection of classical problem formulations, quantum computational concepts and approaches are investigated, which have the potential to outperform classical optimization routines, both in terms of speed and solution quality.
