Curative Distribution System Response on Transmission System Events Using MVDC-Links – Applications and Challenges

The challenging power system transition to a sustainable system requires new technologies and approaches to create flexibilities for power system operation to limit the demand for grid expansion. On distribution system level MVDC technology is capable to provide a wide range of use cases that can increase system security and network utilization. This paper aims for the provision of these flexibilities in form of curative actions for overlayed grids under emergency conditions. Therefore, not only redundancies in the distribution system can be reduced by considering curative operation, but also in the overlaying transmission system. This increases the power systems efficiency and combines flexibilities between power systems.
