Artificial competition driven by regulation is forcing distribution system operators (DSOs) to continuously uphold a high level of operating efficiency. Existing models that aim to optimise the efficiency, however, focus only on selected aspects of a DSO and take no account of interdependencies with other aspects, which complicates a comprehensive optimisation. Therefore, we identified existing interdependencies and used them to link individual models of the different aspects into a comprehensive model of a DSO. This paper presents the resulting model as well as the findings of a use case. Here, the influence of different reinvestment strategies on economic and technical key performance indicators of a DSO is shown. The findings demonstrate that the presented model can support and optimise strategy development and optimisation of DSOs.
