The benefits of utilizing a motor emulation or an Electronic Control Unit Emulation (ECU) for Electronically Controlled (EC) Drive development and testing are well known and state of the art. A suitable combination of both methods offers the possibility of an accelerated development, reduced development costs with an optimized performance. The introduction of automated parameter variation promises the ability of empirical optimization regarding command varia-bles, e.g., torque ripple and efficiency. In this context, a Multi Objective Optimization (MOO) framework was applied, successfully optimizing the ECU’s phase voltage shape utilizing higher harmonic modulation to reduce noise excitation. The feasibility of this approach has been demonstrated exemplarily by the introduction of automated parameter variation, optimizing the command variables torque ripple and efficiency, with a confirmation of the obtained optimized parameter set in real life.
