Energy autonomous sensors have great advantages in industrial environments when the use of a cable for energy and data transmission is not possible due to moving machine parts, hygienic requirements or unfavorable geometric arrangements and installation spaces. Especially in cases where batteries and energy harvesting from the environment are impossible or undesirable, RFID-based sensor technology offers a way to transmit energy and data contact-free over several meters. In this paper, an RFID-based vibration sensor for condition monitoring is presented.
